About Route 66 Fine Line Tattoo
Our History
Route 66 Fine Line Tattoo is part of Albuquerque's tattoo history, with roots reaching back to the early days of the city's modern tattoo scene. For decades, this shop has been a fixture of the local community and a name people across New Mexico know and trust.
Where It Started
The shop was founded by Brian Everett, an internationally recognized tattoo artist whose work helped put Route 66 on the map in New Mexico tattooing. Before settling into our current home, Brian ran a shop on Fourth Street, where he built his reputation one client at a time.
In 1987, Route 66 Fine Line Tattoo opened its doors at its current location on Central Avenue, right along Albuquerque's historic Route 66. The shop has stayed there ever since, alongside the stretch of road that gives it its name.
A Legacy in Black and Grey
Brian carved out a niche for himself and is recognized historically for his black and grey portrait work. His skill with realism, shading, and detail set a standard that still shapes how we approach every piece.
The shop was built on, and still specializes in, the fine line style. It is a style that Brian and other icons like Jack Rudy refined and helped bring into the world of tattooing as we know it today. Smooth gradients, delicate linework, and careful precision are more than a specialty here. They are our foundation.
Rooted in Tradition, Open to Every Era
Route 66 has seen many different eras over the years, and many different artists have worked under the name. Styles have come and gone, and the city has changed around us, but the fundamentals have stayed the same and the roots run deep.
Craft comes first. Every client gets respect, and every tattoo gets the care it deserves. Those values have carried this shop from Fourth Street to Central Avenue and through decades of Albuquerque history.
Come See for Yourself
Some things are hard to put into words. The history, the artwork, and the atmosphere are best experienced just by walking in the doors. Whether you're planning your first tattoo, adding to a collection, or looking for a piece of classic fine line work, we'd love to have you in.
